Scarf on Bench
Wood
My work relates to the theme of translation as it plays on the idea of reproducing a soft goods item in wood. The wood carving of a scarf and book on the bench is made to represent an entryway seating object that may often get items left on it through everyday use. The scarf is carved from basswood, the book is cherry, and the bench is made from walnut. The goal of the project was to start to learn techniques made popular from woodworkers like Wendell Castle.
